Rookgaard has always had something magical about it. Although it is only - or perhaps as much as - a beginner’s island, over the years it became a place where Tibia’s myths, secrets, and legends were born. Players who decided to stay there forever - the so-called Rookstayers - explored the island on their own, searching for hidden quests and mysteries supposedly accessible only to the most persistent ones.
Iron Helmet
Among the many stories that grew around Rookgaard, the legend of the
Iron Helmet holds a special place. It is not the only legend of the island, nor the most important one, but definitely one of those that for a long time appeared most frequently in players’ conversations.
The situation surrounding this item is extremely mysterious. Officially, nobody knows how to obtain the
Iron Helmet on Rookgaard. Over the years, there have been speculations about secret quests, unique loot, or hidden mechanics. The only person who publicly claimed to have actually obtained it was the legendary rookstayer
Darth Saldria.
In an interview, he admitted that he managed to obtain it and denied that it was the result of a bug. At the same time, he never showed the item in-game to other players - only screenshots circulated, which he himself shared. This led to uncertainty that remains to this day: whether he was telling the truth or whether the screenshots could have been fabricated.
The legend was fueled both by Darth Saldria’s words and by the circulating screenshots. In the
interview he stated directly:
Kyron wrote: Obtaining the Iron Helmet? Can you tell us about it? Is it some kind of bug?
Darth Saldria wrote:It is not a bug. Simply, obtaining it takes a large amount of time. I don’t know if anyone else will be able to obtain it, because everyone is busy with other things and nobody is interested in secrets.
Despite this, he never showed the
Iron Helmet directly in-game. Instead, the community knows several screenshots - two with him and one showing another mysterious player who, in earlier versions of Tibia, was supposed to wear the
Iron Helmet on Rookgaard. To this day, it is unknown whether these images were fully authentic or manipulated.
One of the most famous theories claimed that to obtain the
Iron Helmet on Rookgaard, you had to bring
Blind Orc a set of items: a Legion Helmet and 100 pieces of iron scattered around the island. The orc would then forge a unique helmet for the player. This rumor circulated for years, but no dialogue path or other proof that such a mechanic existed was ever found.
Brass Armor
The myth of the
Brass Armor on Rookgaard grew from two foundations.
The first was the fact that
Brass Armor appeared on the Minotaur Mage’s loot list. Many players therefore believed that there was a real chance for the armor to appear on the starting island, if only someone managed to reach the mage. This fueled rookstayers’ imagination about obtaining
Brass Armor.
The second source of rumors was the NPC
Dixi. In older versions of Tibia, she offered to buy
Brass Armor for 150 gp - which further confirmed for players that the item must somehow exist on Rookgaard. In later updates, the option to sell this item to
Dixi was removed, which only intensified the aura of mystery surrounding this legend.
Although no one ever documented obtaining
Brass Armor on Rookgaard legitimately, these two elements were enough for the legend of its existence to take root in the community for a long time.
Poison Dagger
A separate legend grew around the
Poison Dagger on Rookgaard, with somewhat different origins than the Iron Helmet myth. Initially, the myth may have arisen due to an error on one of the popular fansites, where Minotaur loot was described as including a
Poison Dagger. The rumor spread quickly, and people began to believe that the item actually existed on the island.
It is unknown whether such a drop really existed in the oldest versions of Tibia. In the early days of the game, there was no culture of “tryharding” and detailed knowledge of every monster, so only a few players could realistically verify the rumor. This leaves room for speculation that such a drop might have existed in the distant past.
Even
Rookguardian de’Bove believed in the existence of the
Poison Dagger and allegedly tried to buy it. The myth resurfaced after the introduction of the
Rookie Guard Quest - players speculated that the item could be a rare drop from the final boss, Kraknaknork. These rumors were debunked by the well-known rookstayer
Thrathos, who collected rubies dropped by the boss for a long time and claimed he had never seen a
Poison Dagger in its loot.
The legend of the
Poison Dagger is therefore an example of a myth born from a mix of error, speculation, and ambiguity, which later took on a life of its own thanks to the community’s imagination.
Magic Buttersword
In the world of Rookgaard, a mysterious
Magic Buttersword (MBS) appears, associated with the player
Sunrise:
14:34 Sunrise: 19:35 You see a Magic Buttersword (Atk:0 Def:0). It weighs 0.0 oz. It's extraordinarily sharp blade slices even cold butter.
The status of this item remains uncertain. It is unknown whether the sword actually existed in the game or was a humorous creation by
Sunrise. It is also unclear whether it could have been granted by
CipSoft as a reward for reaching level 100, or whether it exists only as part of community legends and jokes.
MBS circulates in player stories and continues to spark interest, becoming a symbol of uncertainty and humor in Rookgaard’s legends.
Sword of Fury
Among all the myths and mysteries of Rookgaard, none ignited players’ imagination as much as the
Sword of Fury. This sword stands embedded in a stone on a small island on the north-western coast of the island. It is surrounded by rings of fire, and a sign next to it reads:
Only the humble may touch the Sword of Fury.
Players have always tried to find out whether obtaining this weapon is even possible. Rumors spoke of a hidden quest that no one ever solved, unknown mechanics unlocking the sword, and even that it was a reward for exceptional players - like
Sunrise, the first rookstayer to reach level 100. To this day, there is no evidence confirming any of these versions.
Over the years, players found clues that only fueled speculation. In the game files, two tiles on Rookgaard were discovered that - when stepped on in the correct order - caused the
Sword of Fury to disappear and the surrounding fire to fade. Unfortunately, the rest of the quest was never found or developed, and the idea of continuing it was abandoned by CipSoft.
The legend was also reinforced by
Dallheim, the bridge guardian in the north of the island, known for healing beginners and marking monster locations on their maps. One of his dialogues included the line:
With my spikesword I slice even a cyclops in pieces.
Many players interpreted this as a suggestion that the
Spike Sword, and thus the
Sword of Fury, had greater lore significance on Rookgaard. The fact that this NPC directly referenced the weapon only strengthened the mystery - especially since this line was later removed in updates.
Other NPCs also contributed to the legend.
Spirit Speaker tells a story according to which the
Sword of Fury was guarded by a powerful Minotaur Mage on Rookgaard.
Avar Tar, a boastful warrior, claims it is his own weapon that he supposedly left on the island. A popular theory also involved a lone Minotaur guarding the Sword of Fury from a lighthouse-like tower. However, the player
Qwerty pointed out that next to the Minotaur there was a scroll reading:
Still no sign of a ship yet.
Even though I'm looking out since days, now.
Never again will I swear in the presence of the holy mage, in order to avoid such duties in the future.
The scroll suggested that the Minotaur was rather a lookout watching for ships than a guardian of the legendary sword. The scroll was later removed in an update, which only increased the aura of mystery, but for many it was proof that the guardian theory had no basis.
The legend was further fueled by the story of
Potty of Harmonia. This player became famous after a Community Manager teleported him to the Main, where he received a
Spike Sword. When Potty returned to Rookgaard, he caused a sensation - many believed this was finally proof of obtaining the
Sword of Fury. The truth quickly came out, and after CipSoft’s intervention, the sword had to be returned. Nevertheless, the story remained deeply embedded in rookstayer lore.
Interestingly, CipSoft itself has referenced this legend several times over the years. The most notable example is the quest “
20 Years a Cook”, where the
Sword of Fury appears as a story element. It was a clear wink to the community - a reminder that this weapon, even if unobtainable, has lived in players’ imagination for over two decades.
Today, the
Sword of Fury is no longer just an item, but a symbol. It is a story about a dream that was never fulfilled, but which gave Rookgaard extra depth and magic. The sword still stands in the stone, in fire and in the shadow of mysterious signs, reminding everyone that even on this seemingly simple island, there was never a lack of secrets.
